Welcome!
Hello! My name is Rachel, and this website is a compilation of all the things I am learning in Art for Children, a course in the elementary education program at the University of Missouri. I have never really thought of myself as an artist, so I hope this class will help change this self-perception! To give you a little background into who I am, here is a list of some of my favorite things!
1. Family: I love my family more than anyone. My family members are a source of comfort, fun, and inspiration. As I get closer to graduation and forging my own way in life, I have grown even more in my appreciation for all that my parents do out of love for my sisters and I. I would not be who I am without the influence of my supportive family.
2. Friends: My friends are a close favorite to my family! Since coming to Mizzou, I have met strangers who have become friends more like family now. I try to get coffee or catch lunch/dinner with a friend at least once a day. I often hope that I can be the inspiring person that my friends have been for me.
3. Nature: I love surrounding myself with beauty. I don’t think anything calms my heart and soul like sitting in awe of the nature around me. This claim sounds like I am a hippie, but taking time to notice the beauty is important too me. When I am too hurried to miss beauty around me, I know I am too busy!
4. Faith: My Christian faith has the greatest influence in my life. I strive to live each day focusing on the big picture in life and not letting little frustrations and worries get me down. I love going to church with family and friends and then trying to live out what we learn in each coming week.
5. Traveling: Traveling is my newest “favorite,” and it started by visiting my older sister, Jessie, twice last year in London, England. I fell in love with learning about different people’s way of life, values, and culture. This January I got to live out my new-found passion for traveling by going on a mission trip to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. This summer I hope to teach in India if all goes to plan!
6. Music: You will rarely catch me in my room without Spotify playing from my computer. Second to nature music is a way for me to release stress and anxiety. I also enjoy keeping up with piano in my spare time.
7. Coffee: My friends know how much I love Kaldi’s Coffee or any coffee for that matter. I try to convince myself each morning I make coffee that I don’t have a caffine addiction, but I am 100% sure I do.
8. Dogs (especially mine, Truman): Just like every other dog owner, I think my Morkie (a Maltese and Yorkie mix) is the cutest thing in the world. Even though I think his barking for food or wanting to go out is annoying, I couldn’t have a softer heart for him when he curls up next to me on the couch.
9. The Sound of Music: The Sound of Music is by far my favorite movie and has been since I was a little girl. My mom actually has a home video of my older sister and I dancing to this musical in front of the television when I was about three years old.
10, Mizzou: If I could choose one word to describe my Mizzou experience, the word would be transformative. I have grown into a confident woman and future professional through the experiences I’ve had here. I have no doubt that wherever I go, if I hear an MIZ, I will have a ZOU ready to say back!
Thank you again for visiting my site, and I hope you enjoy it!
