Reflection
Although I didn't love how my finger puppet turned out, this studio is probably my favorite one we did throughout the semester. Creating a finger puppet is a low pressure project, so I was able to just enjoy the studio day and not worry how silly my project looked compared to others! This studio relates the the big idea of celebration because it asked us to portray a part of ourselves of which we are proud! I absolutely love being a University of Missouri Tiger. Besides being a future teacher, being a MIzzou student is what I tell people about myself more than anything! While my puppet looks a little funny with its bug eyes and pom poms for hands, it gets the point across that I love going to Mizzou!
I can see myself using this studio just as we used it in class: to have my students show one trait about them that they would like to celebrate! Students could also make finger puppets to portray their favorite literary character or a famous historical figure we might study.

Reflection
I enjoyed this studio because it made me think of one experience in a context that relates to a wider audience. Something I have read about my generation that is worth celebrating is Generation X is civic minded. We find personal satisfaction in serving our surrounding communities and communities abroad. In my mind service relates to the big idea of celebration because people selflessly caring for others qualifies for celebration. In the media today we see so much hurt around the world that I wanted to find something that celebrates good people doing good things.
I will definitely want to use this studio in my future teaching because children can accomplish more through technology than what I could even do. If I implement this project under the same big idea, it would also help me get to know my students more because I would learn what they see as cause for celebration. I could easily see myself using this studio in writing. This semester my fifth graders had to write a news story and this studio could have enhanced that writing project.

Reflection
I chose to celebrate the inspiration my older sister gives me through this studio piece. My sister lives with a sense of adventure. When she didn't have a job following graduation from college, she found an open door by going to graduate school in London. After losing her full-time job in London, she overcame this challenge by finding a job in London. My sister has taught me that the world is only as big or as small as I make it. She has also given me the courage to pursue the unknown. My tendency is to stay with the familiar, to not go out and explore the world around me. Through visiting my sister in her different homes, she has opened my eyes to learning from the world around me. She has inspired me to take advantage of opportunities to see the world, even when those opportunities seem intimidating or scary. My sister has given me a new perspective on the world, and I wanted to celebrate that in this piece.
I will incorporate this studio into literacy and social studies teaching in my future classroom. Every month the students in my field classroom have to complete a book project. Students could find inspiration in Miriam Schapiro's work to celebrate their favorite part of the book. A student in my class recently built a dollhouse for her book project and her project could have easily been tied to Miriam Schapiro. I could also see myself using this studio at the end of the year to have students celebrate outstanding qualities in one another.
